Exeter Northcott Theatre

Located on the University of Exeter’s Streatham campus, Exeter Northcott Theatre plays a central role in the cultural life of the city and region. Currently the venue has a website but besides being outdated, is not responsive.

During the project’s scoping we arrange a kick off meeting where we do an analytics review of the current website and try to investigate the present issues of the website – why do they want a new website, what are the users and admins lacking from the site, what are the crucial problems, accessibility requirements, ticketing system, etc., as well as the goals and expectations for a new site. This allows us to have a better idea on where to start, how to solve current problems and how to handle and set new goals and challenges.

We ran a UX workshop to go through some exercises to get a deeper understanding of the project objectives. At the workshop the team explored the website users, grouped and prioritised them, researched and understood their needs and created personas, user journeys, and user stories. Once all the content was gathered and analysed, wireframes were sketched and prototyped so they can be tested by users and iterated if needed.

Designs were produced and prototyped taking all the previous decisions into account and suggesting interactions and visual effects through the pages and sections. With client’s iterations and the team’s constructive critique and feedback a new style was shaped and approved for development.

Working closely with the developer’s team the designs come to live and after intensive weeks of testing the website was launched and received with a great feedback from the clients and users.
